Role Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of plant machinery and utilities. The role ensures maximum equipment availability, reduced downtime, and adherence to safety and quality standards in a continuous manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance & Operations
- Plan, execute, and supervise preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot production machinery, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, blowers, valves, and utility systems.
- Diagnose root causes of mechanical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support installation, commissioning, and modification of new machinery and plant equipment.
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
- Develop and monitor preventive maintenance schedules and ensure timely execution.
- Maintain maintenance records, equipment history cards, and breakdown analysis reports.
- Identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance.
Utilities & Plant Support
- Oversee plant utilities including compressors, boilers, cooling towers, HVAC, water treatment, and piping systems.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure minimal downtime and smooth plant operations.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, statutory requirements, and company policies.
- Enforce safe maintenance practices, permit-to-work systems, and use of PPE.
- Support internal and external audits related to maintenance, safety, and quality systems.
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Guide and supervise technicians and junior engineers.
- Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, and utility teams for integrated maintenance activities.
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and OEMs for repairs, spares, and services.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education:
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or process industry.
- Prior experience in continuous process plants or PPE / glove manufacturing will be an added advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and utilities
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems and breakdown analysis
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs
